About Pankwat
When you choose milk for your family, you are not just choosing a product —
you are trusting the people behind it. This page is our attempt to introduce ourselves,
share our story, and explain why Pankwat exists.
Below you will find who we are, how Pankwat started, what we stand for, and how we want
to shape the future of honest dairy in Guwahati.
Who we are
Saswat Kr Das
I am Saswat Kr Das, born and brought up in Guwahati. I did my schooling in
Sainik School Goalpara and completed my engineering in Electronics from Assam Engineering College.
Professionally, I work as a Senior Product Marketing Engineer at Renesas, a Japanese semiconductor
company. I have been settled in Germany since 2015. Before that, I worked in Chennai and Bangalore.
I have not opened this farm for my bread and butter. Farming is my passion. In my free time, I spend
hours studying technology, animal husbandry, farming and related topics. Learning something new
really excites me.
I also developed this website. For anything that can be done over phone and internet, I am usually
the person you are actually interacting with. Feel free to connect with me online:
Pankaj Thakuria
I am Pankaj Thakuria, also born and brought up in Guwahati. I studied at Sainik School Goalpara
and completed my engineering in Electronics from HIET, Chennai.
From 2005 to 2020, I worked as a Senior Manager at India TV. I was also involved in setting up
the satellite communication of one of the oldest and leading news channels in the North East.
Farming is my passion too. I decided to return permanently to Guwahati to look after the farm,
and I am enjoying my new life as a farmer.

1. Why Pankwat was born
When I (Saswat) moved to Germany around 11 years ago, one incident stayed with me. Millions of eggs
from ALDI, a supermarket chain were recalled due to the presence of an insecticide "Fipronil" which was not proven harmful
for adults, but its effect on pregnant women and children was not yet fully studied. That recall made me
think deeply about food safety and regulation.
Over time, I became more interested in the food sector for self-awareness and understood how strict
the European Union is about food adulteration and consumer protection.
Back in Guwahati, Pankaj’s family was searching for raw milk for his daughter around mid-2018.
Being in the media sector, he was already aware of milk adulteration cases in Delhi NCR. Before
trying local suppliers in Guwahati, he carried out some chemical tests for common adulterants and
sadly found the same story here as well.
Fortunately, a school friend was operating a dairy farm near Sonapur, and that helped fulfil his
family’s immediate need. But the larger problem remained.
We also heard from many families who simply do not give milk to their children because they are
afraid of adulteration — even though they desperately want to. Over the next few months, we
kept discussing this gap between demand and supply of pure raw milk.
As a result, in September 2018, we formed Sanjeevani Farms. In 2021, we created the
brand Pankwat. Some of our customers say it’s a tongue-twister, but it is actually an
amalgamation of our names: Pank(aj) + (Sas)wat = Pankwat. We pronounce it as
/pæŋkwɑːt/, পেঙ্কৱাত or पेन्कवाट.
2. Government of India Recognition
Pankwat is recognised as a Startup by the Government of India
under the Startup India initiative.
This recognition reflects our commitment to building a transparent,
ethical and sustainable dairy operation focused on food safety,
traceability and consumer awareness.
3. Our commitment and policies
- Farm to home, fully controlled: We maintain the whole supply chain from farm to home. No middlemen.
- No mixing: We do not mix our milk with compounds or external sources.
-
We encourage testing: We actively encourage you to randomly test our milk in labs.
It is a win–win: you get peace of mind, and we get a customer for life. You can also buy simple
milk-testing kits. Testing is actually fun — it can remind you of your college lab, or make
you feel like a home scientist.
- No overnight storage: We do not keep milk overnight as a practice.
- Transparent pricing: We prefer honest pricing over fake discounts. We do not want to inflate prices and then show “offers”. We also dislike bargaining.
4. Our focused consumers
-
Families with children who need unadulterated products and are willing to pay a small premium for safety and quality.
-
Intelligent, health-conscious individuals who like to keep themselves informed and read before they decide.
-
Anyone who cares about purity and freshness and wants to know where their food comes from.
5. We are not for everyone
Most commercial milk is pasteurised, homogenised, and blended from multiple sources. Pankwat set out
to change that by delivering only raw cow milk directly from the farm to the doorstep,
without processing, blending, or chemical preservation.
This decision naturally narrows the audience. Not everyone wants raw milk. But those who do usually
care deeply about purity, taste and nutrition. We have always chosen authenticity over rapidly increasing
customer numbers.
6. Our future vision
- Expanding delivery areas slowly, based on real capacity — not at the cost of quality.
- Maintaining the same purity, even as we grow.
- Educating people about food adulteration and safe consumption.
9. Read what our customers say
Before trusting anyone with your family’s milk, it is natural to have questions.
Many families in Guwahati have already shared their honest experience with Pankwat on Facebook and Google.
